VSAC shows you how to appeal your financial aid offer, April 26

Students and families experiencing special circumstances can — and should — seek reconsideration

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Student Assistance Corp is offering a free online webinar on how to appeal your financial aid offer on Tuesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. Students and families can participate via Zoom by signing up to https://www.vsac.org/events/appeal-your-financial-aid-offer-vsac-shows-you-how or by visiting the VSAC Facebook page. The event will also be recorded and available for later viewing.

Attractive financial aid offers for college are nothing new. Each year, students and families are faced with unexpected circumstances that impact their home financial aid package. A job loss. An increase in family size. Unforeseen medical expenses and other one-time events.

In the age of the current pandemic, this is especially true for many other Vermonters. Families are dealing with various financial and personal pressures caused by COVID-19.

Vermonters who have received a grant from the state of Vermont — or financial aid from the institutions they plan to attend — can “appeal” — or request a review of their aid programs.

Panelists include Marilyn Cargill, vice president of financial aid services, research and marketing at VSAC; Marcia Corey, VSAC Grants and Fellowships Operations Manager; and Gregory J. Davis, Director of Financial Aid at Champlain College.

In this online presentation, parents and students will learn about a financial aid appeal; how the appeal process works; what qualifies as special circumstances; what documentation is needed; and how to present a convincing application. Bring your questions and get answers from the experts.

Parents and students will have the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation, which can be addressed during the live stream itself, privately during the stream, or in a 1:1 follow-up consultation.
