Financial assistance sought for loved ones

Vijayawada: Human Rights Forum (HRF) and Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) have urged the Government of Andhra Pradesh to take immediate action for the implementation of GO 43 which provides financial compensation (Rs 7 lakh) and the rehabilitation of farming families who have committed suicide. . The HRF felt there had been a considerable delay in the case and hoped the government would respond and help the families of the deceased farmers.

Members of Human Rights Forum and Rytu Swarajya Vedika B Kondal, K Anuradha and G Rohith, Member of HRF State Executive Committee VS Krishna, Member of HRF AP&TS Coordinating Committee visited six farming families, who had committed suicide between 2020 and 2021 in three mandals of Vuyyuru division in Krishna district. zAll six who died were sharecroppers, whose main source of income was farming. Some of these suicides took place more than a year ago and almost all the families are in a serious state of distress and are barely able to obtain financial assistance from the government.

Investigating committee members said these farmers committed suicide out of sheer desperation, as they were unable to support their families due to the high cost of cultivation, unfavorable seasonal conditions and lack of remunerative prices. for their products. Given the lack of access to institutional credit, they were pressured to borrow from private sources, which over time led to the accumulation of huge debts. This agrarian distress leading to suicide could have been easily established if those responsible had only visited the villages and noted the facts.

The victims were Kodali Ashok (44) from Katuru (village), Vuyyuru (mandal) who died on November 7, 2021; Nannapaneni Chandrasekhar (51) from Katuru (v), Vuyyuru (m) and died on November 12, 2021; Ede Veerabhadra Rao (59) of Kalavapamula (v), mandal of Vuyyuru and died on March 3, 2021; Konatham Venkateswara Rao (38) of Marriwada, Pamidimukkala mandal and died on September 2, 2020; Somana Srinivasa Rao (55) of Krishnapuram (v), Pamidimukkala mandal and died on August 21, 2020; and Veeranki Srinivasa Rao (27) from Pedasanagallu (v), Movva mandal and passed away on August 22, 2020.
