Chidambaram hails TN government financial aid for female students

Sivaganga, Mar 18 (UNI) Congress Leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday described the Tamil Nadu government’s announcement in the state budget to provide monthly financial aid of 1,000 rupees to all girls studying in grades 6 to 12 in public schools as a “very big motivator”. “It was a reflection of the state government’s commitment to unfettered education for girls,” Chidambaram said while speaking to reporters here. The financial aid will encourage the children to pursue their studies with great zeal. By spreading knowledge to girls in remote places in the state, the society would experience balanced growth in all areas, he said. Chidambaram, while conveying well wishes to Chief Minister MK Stalin and PTR Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan for presenting the budget with emphasis on health and education, described it as a breakthrough budget. He said the finance minister rightly earmarked huge appropriations for education and health. When more and more infrastructure is provided, the way of life and even living standards of those below the poverty line will be supported, he added. He also appreciated the announced sops for the MSME sector and startups in Tamil Nadu as a good start. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, while presenting the budget for 2022-23 to the assembly, announced an incentive of Rs. graduation or diploma and it would also bear the education expenses of the boys and girls of these schools if they were admitted to the undergraduate programs in leading institutions like IIT, AIIMS and the ‘IISc.
